Massive sale!

Pinkyotto is a treasure trove of independently designed pieces. They only stock a few of each item, making each one that much more special.

I love the store but it's a little too pricey for me, so I only shop there when there's a sale. Imagine my excitement when I saw a "BLOWOUT" sign in their window-- most items are on sale and it's buy one get one free!

Japanese Izakaya experience in NYC

I had been on an incessant hunt for one of my favorite recipes my mama used to make for me when I was a kid: Omu-rice (pronounced Oh-moo Rai-su). It's basically an omelette with chicken, rice and vegetables inside it. Imagine my delight when stumbling upon Kenka,  a basement level izakaya on St. Marks! Their menu offers all of the things an izakaya in Japan would, including my favorite Omu-rice! They also have another personal favorite:  Okonomiyaki, (which is sort of like a Japanese pizza, if you will), Croquettes, Yakitori... And wait for it... $8 pitchers!!! Yep. That's right. This place is great for people on a budget as the family style dishes are no more that $9 each. Most range from about $5 to $7. The decor is interesting... definitely radical and politically themed, which most likely wouldn't happen in Japan, but hey, It works. The food's pretty damn good, can't beat the prices, and at the end of your meal, you get to make cotton candy in a real cotton candy machine!

Beer me that Monster.

If you are a beer lover, you will be happy to know that Amity Hall on the West Village is one of the very few places with Brooklyn Monster Ale on tap! It sells out like nobody's business, but on a lucky day you can enjoy this delicious brew. For those of you who have never had it: It's warm coppery color makes it look extra enticing. (But don't throw them back like it's any old beer! It boasts an alcohol percentage of %10.8) It's surprisingly smooth and has a hint of citrus and fruit with a slight caramel malt flavored aftertaste. Now I am no beer connoisseur, but I recognize a yummy beer when I taste one!

Stuff We Love!

Hi all,

Before bringing this blog to life, Carina and I sat down over many beers and much Japanese food to talk about our inspirations. With both of us having worked in fashion before, we know that inspiration for something concrete--like a lifestyle blog--can come from a wide range of media. We conversed about movies, celebrities, songs, decades, fabrics, textures, anything that inspires our aesthetic! Overstuffed and maybe a little tipsy, we finally closed our Wednesday brainstorming session and went home.

Here in New York, Thursday may be the new Friday and Friday the new Saturday, but who needs the weekend? We'd rather find the hidden bars lurking in the corners. We'd rather explore Wednesday.

Enjoy some of the tidbits we emailed back and forth for inspiration!
